Session Title: Can You Relate to "Climate Action" on Social or Traditional Media?

Time: 19th November (Wednesday), 9:30-11:00 (1h30min)

Venue: UNFCCC COP30 Green Zone — Booth No.58 (Name: STUF United Pavilion “Sustainability in Action”)

Platform: Live stream on Youtube, Online+In-person Hybrid Speakers

Language: English

Overview:
We are entering an era of climate emergency; meanwhile, it is an age of information overload. How can complex energy and climate issues be accessible to more people—and inspire them to care?
This conversation brings together Taiwan’s knowledge-focused creator Plain Law Movement and young climate activists to explore the challenges and practice of translating expertise into public understanding. They will share how they communicate climate science, climate action, law, and public affairs in clear and approachable ways, while maintaining professionalism and credibility in an environment saturated with misinformation.
Through cross-border dialogue, the panelists will reflect on communication strategies across different cultural and political contexts, and discuss the obstacles and opportunities in helping society better understand—and act on—climate issues. The session invites the audience to rethink the role and impact of climate communication within today’s media landscape.

Guiding Questions:

  1. What is the focus of your advocacy? Is the strategy of “communication” important for your movement? Why?
  2. Based on your experience, while communicating with the topics of climate change and/or energy transition, what research has been done? For example, do you explore the background of the audience or the connection of the issues with the community? Have you found an effective formula to make people relate to the topics?
  3. People are more likely to trust information from sources they perceive as credible. How do you build trust with the audience through appropriate messengers?
  4. Do you think cooperation between traditional media and social media is possible? What is potential influence if the collaboration happens for climate change communication?
  5. As climate NGOs, our goal is to empower people with solutions. How do we shift from a purely problem-focused narrative to one that emphasizes solutions and individual agency?
